Should I “De-chickletize” My 2010 Camaro SS?
UPDATE! I did end up “de-chickletizing” my car! Details here!
Now that spring is just around the corner, I am preparing for more things to my 2010 Camaro SS, as I have promised in my previous entries. So, let’s start with something simple…
First of all, if you don’t know what a GM “chicklet” is, see the following image:

Example of a GM Mark of Excellence "Chicklet"
GM started putting these on all of their vehicles starting with the 2006 models. GM called it a “move to link General Motors and its vehicle brands more closely”. However, a decision was made in August of 2009 to stop installing the badges on GM vehicles so they could focus more on core brands and less of a focus on the GM brand image itself.
The badge drew a lot of praise and criticism…it seemed that people either liked it or hated it. Some touted it with pride and referred to what it is officially called, the GM “Mark of Excellence”. Others had it removed from their cars before they drove them off the dealer lot.
Originally, I myself liked the badge for the most part. I left it on my 2007 Trailblazer SS as I thought it added a bit of character. However, I thought about removing the chicklet from my Camaro ever since the day I got it. As indicated by my SmoothLocks, small details can make a huge difference and anyone who knows me well also knows that I like to keep my Camaros clean and uncluttered in appearance. In the case of my 2010 Camaro, the GM chicklet just seemed out of place for me personally.
Before GM’s decision to stop installing them was made, right around 30,000 2010 Camaros made it out of the gate wearing the controversial badge. That number includes mine.
So this brings us to the question posted in the title of this blog entry. Should I “de-chickletize” my 2010 Camaro? I think I have my mind made up (you can probably tell) but I’d still like to propose a poll to see what everyone else thinks. Before posting below, here is a good comparison image depicting what it would look like:

Some might say it isn’t even noticeable, but I think it makes a surprising difference. What do you think? To vote in the poll, please leave a comment to this entry with your thoughts.

While it does make the car look a bit “cleaner” it is also a very subtle identifier that you’re the owner of one of the first handful of 5th gen Camaros (assuming many years of 5th gens in the future!) to come off the line… which is kinda cool too
I’ll be taking mine off soon as well — as soon as it warms up outside. I only have a V6 (for now
so I’m not as worried about the “stock/production period” perspective as you may be. Nevertheless, with all you’ve already done, I can’t imagine you’d leave these on.
The chicklet just distracts from the great lines of the vehicle. I may take the RS badges off the front and rear as well. I chose the RS for the HID/halo lights, 20″ wheels, and spoiler — not for badges. I’m also considering the Dale Jr. grill from GM Performance Parts — it adds a touch of refinement to the V6.
Love the updates. Keep them coming.
Wow, I’m shocked I voted yes on the above crazy ass poll. I was almost sure my answer was going to be no…. but it really does look best-er without the chick. And I know it sounds stupid, but maybe you could find a better place to put the chicklet that doesn’t involve any body cavity references. Maybe you could find a cool place under the hood for it…. Maybe you could deface your license plate and stick it right smack dab in the middle. Maybe you could add it to a Camaro model instead. Maybe you could sell them on eBay or raffle them off on the podcast to raise money for good cause. Hell, I’d pay $100 bucks for them. Just Kidding.
Heck, I guess you could even crazy glue them on the side of a Mustang… the next time some dumb ass pisses you off.
I’m just saying the possibilities are endless if only you open up your mind and consider Jesus or Bob in your spirit guides awareness of alternate beings.
Praise Allah for this crap!
Cheers and let’s get some beers!
Aloha!
For me personally, I would have liked to have it on my camaro (You know, the 5th gen camaro I would have bought, had I had the money). Though I personally like to keep the appearance of my cars mint condition. If it had the badge on there when purchased, I’d leave it on there, if it didn’t, don’t put it on. Usually I find when I add or take away something, I find I want it back to the way it was because it ends up feeling wrong.
I would keep them on so in the Barrett-Jackson auction in 2035 when it rolls through as being the authenticated as www,CamaroZ28.com’s very own Jason Debler Camaro bought new bought new by him in 2010 it will bring LARGE money for your family. It will be a collector’s car my friend.
This same question came up in the Vette Forum . . . I left mine on but plan to switch them to JAKE Chiclets I made in the shop. You should have some made with the CamaroZ28.com Logo and put them on. If you would like, I might be able to make them for you using billet SS so they don’t rust or corrode. Might make a great item for you store since other might want to show their allegiance!
Post the pics of your Jake emblems!
Scrap the chicklet and put it as a lapel button for a coat or shirt! This is a CAMARO not a touchy feely corporate sled. Nice ride too! “Keep it simple stupid” reigns supreme in the Camaro world! BTW…thanks for the nice demo on the sequential tail light option! Good job. Be safe.
Why’d you take it off, it’s a proven fact the chicklets add 25 RwHP! Btw I left mine on, my car is number 15,xxx off the line. I kinda like the exclusivity if the chicklets and no bumps on the butt from the reverse sensors…
